Rumors in the past have stated that Apple plans on ditching Google Maps and instead use one that they would create instead. Today however 9to5Google reports that Apple plans on sticking with Google maps for the next iteration of iOS
“Sources have told 9to5Google that although Apple is working on improving the iOS Maps application, iOS 5 will not bring an Apple developed maps service and Google Maps is still in.”
It was rumored that when Apple had purchased both Placebase and Poly9 that Apple was planning on creating a map service that would compete against Google Maps. Even Apple confirmed such rumors when it posted a Q&A regarding it’s use of Location Data.
Apple is now collecting anonymus traffic data to build a crowd-sourced traffic database with the goal of providing iPhone users an improved traffic service in the next couple of years.”
Of course, ‘in the next couple of years’ could hint that maybe Apple’s map service wont be ready for a while and it is safe to presume that this rumor does hold some water, but again it is still a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt until WWDC this june.

Thank you..really informative!!
